The primary objective for this project was to de-institutionalise the clinical spaces and reduce the stress often associated with hospital visits in order to transform the patients’ perceptions and outlook. The designs aim to bring a sense of warmth, curiosity and confidence to inspire a positive patient experience.
HCA Healthcare UK (a group of world-class, award-winning private hospitals, specialist clinics, outpatients & diagnostics with UK facilities in London and Manchester) have commissioned new designs by local London artist, Helen Bridges (a Masters graduate of Camberwell College of Arts) to reflect London’s iconic skyline and the 360 degree view from this cutting edge hospital near London Bridge. The cityscape designs are fused with colourful illustrations of botanical plants reputed to have cancer healing qualities.
The art is situated throughout the top four floors of the new Guys Cancer Treatment Hospital and includes a series of calming designs within the first robotic operating theatres in Europe (in which patients may be conscious).
